I was set up waiting for a nourthbound train and had no idea this guy was coming until I heard the crew call the dispatcher to report a faulty defect detector. Fortunately I was able to re-position to a different turnout to capture this scene.

Description:  As the days were getting longer, the Aurora Winter Train became a viable option to go and shoot. During the winter, this train will leave Anchorage on Saturday morning and run to Fairbanks. The next morning, it will depart Fairbanks and head back home to Anchorage. Here it is running through the middle of nowhere (I was out on some snow mobile trail somewhere) on its weekly Sunday run.

The Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage charters the annual ski train for an all-day event in Curry, AK, an abandoned ski resort accessible only by train. At 16 cars and 3 MACs, the Nordic Ski Train is the longest passenger train the railroad runs.
