ARR 4002 |
Description: |
An export coal train bound for Seward leaves the yard in Anchorage as seen from the northern end of the Tony Knowles Trail. Friday evening rush hour traffic and an unfamiliarity with the area prevented me from shooting this train again along the scenic portions of the Seward Highway, but I would eventually get another chance just north of Girdwood. |

ARR 4002 |
Description: |
A four-pack of MACs leads an empty coal train north over Twentymile River near Portage. This train finished unloading earlier this particular morning and is heading back to the mine in Healy. It was cloudy and drizzly, but it was a fun chase. If you want to see HD video of this train, you can check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GR26vuLVnsk |

ARR 4002 |
Description: |
ARR 4002 is on the tail end of a an empty gravel train stopped for the weekend on Elmendorf AFB. It had been 3 weeks since my previous railroad photo when I took this series, and based on the typical Alaska summers (low clouds, rain, high temps in the low 60Fs), you never know when the next sunny day will present itself. In fact, it had snowed ~3 inches the day prior to this shot. However, as the spring and summer of 2013 continued to roll out, it would turn out to be one of the sunniest and warmest stretches on record in southcentral Alaska. This was just the first in a long series of successful visits trackside in 2013 during a legendary summer in The Last Frontier! |
