ARR 3001 |
Description: |
This matched set of as-delivered black Geeps have been paired together for the past few weeks. They can be seen hanging out around the engine shops on the south end of the yard, and I've been wanting a shot of them for quite some time. One tidbit: You would think ARR 3001 would be the class unit of these GP40-2s, but trailing ARR 3006 is actually the class unit. It was built as ARR 3000, and, for some reason, it was re-numbered to 3006. Anyone know when or why? |

I had been wanting a shot of one of the three as-delivered black and yellow scheme'd Geeps by itself near the engine shops, and that opportunity presented itself on the evening of 18 Jul! |

ARR 3006 |
Description: |
Original paint scheme'd GP40-2 leads a lone hopper under the only signal bridge like it on the Alaska Railroad back toward the yard in Anchorage. I've dubber this industrial job as "The Trundler" as it spends most of its time on a rickety mile-long spur which serves local industries. You can see my video camera on the right side of this shot and if you're interested, you can see video of The Trundler's day here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEslYZnkucA |

ARR 3006 |
Description: |
The APU Spur job works along E. 1st Ave in Anchorage as ARR 3006 splices 2 covered hoppers for the Alaska Mill Feed & Garden Center. The reason it's configured this way is because the customer has two spurs, one for fertilizer and one for feed. One of those spurs is a facing point move and the other is a trailing point move. |

ARR 3006 backs down the APU Spur with a lone covered hopper. This spur runs a mile off the mainline to serve local industries in Anchorage, and spends a good chuck of that mile paralleling E. 1st Ave as seen here. |

ARR 3006 |
Description: |
An infrequently photographed move as ARR 3006 works the mile-long APU Spur as it brings a lone hopper from a local industry back to the yard in Anchorage. This is the as-delivered, federal government-owned black and yellow scheme...only 3 units remain in this paint. |

Only 3 units remain in the U.S. government black and yellow scheme...personally, my favorite ARR paint scheme to catch on the rails! This train was about to depart with a freight bound for Whittier. |
